As you can see by the photo, Junpei has a thing for Nissan Skylines - particularly those of the shakotan variety.
Porsche is considering further expanding its portfolio. One of the sports-car maker’s ideas is a station wagon version of its Panamera sedan, which will be called a “shooting brake,” despite its excessive number of doors. Read full story »
As I write this here in California it's Monday morning. Yes, the dreaded Monday morning where the fun and excitement of the weekend is left behind in the start of a new work week. Never fear though, as we have some images here that may be able to help pull you out of the early week blues.
When youngster Dany Bahar jumped from Ferrari to Lotus in September 2009, he promised a booming future for the legendary English sports-car brand by launching five new models—a new Elise, a new Elan, a new Esprit, a new Elite, and the Eterne—by 2015. After almost three years, a change in ownership, and zero new cars, [...]

WEEKEND HEADLINES: 1. Hamilton had F1 field covered from the start 2. Johnson and Knaus in a class by themselves 3. A.J. Allmendinger done like dinner It’s ironic that A.J. Allmendinger’s drug case was back in the public eye on a day when two of the finest examples of clean living, talent and determination won races in their respective disciplines: Jimmie Johnson in NASCAR stock cars and Lewis Hamilton in F1. Johnson won his third race of the Sprint Cup season and his fourth Brickyard 400 when he won the race at Indianapolis Sunday. And Hamilton won his second race...
Note to Chevrolet: There are some things about the ’80s that aren’t worthy of nostalgia. The era’s pony cars, by and large, fall under this umbrella. It’s true that Ford has the five-point-oh—a designation fairly soaked in Aqua Net, yet perhaps the only thing about the decade’s Stangs worth revisiting—but when it named its latest [...]

A whole day has been sacrificed to the racing gods. They seem pretty happy. It was only fitting that with the Olympic Games taking place in London that the British national anthem was played at the conclusion of the Grand Prix of Hungary today. Lewis Hamilton drove a McLaren-Mercedes (the engine being the only non-English part of the equation) to an easy victory at the Hungaroring, although Kimi Raikkonen in his Lotus-Renault was nipping at his heels in second and fellow Lotus driver Romain Grosjean was not far behind in third. Defending world champion Sebastien Vettel finished fourth in a Red Bull-Renault, current championship leader Fernando Alonso (who turned 31 Sunday) was fifth for...
The safety car is requiring as much mechanical attention as the race-cars at this years Spa 24 Hours – it’s been out on track almost as much as the GT cars. Those that survive that is: it’s been a race of attrition so far, with the weather and traffic mashing minds and cars. The rain [...]

The storm of activity on the track on Thursday was followed by a real storm on Friday that led to the cancellation of the planned Super Pole session. The 2013 Audi R8 isn’t much different from the R8s that have been produced for the past five years, but that didn’t stop the Ingolstadt manufacturer from launching a video on its YouTube channel showing the ’13 iteration in action. We’ve previously compared Porsche’s model lineup to the Taco Bell menu in the way that the engine and chassis components are mixed and matched across the lineup. You can call it an open secret—or the rumor that won’t die. “Ford Plans New Pickup With Aluminum Body to Boost Mileage,” the Wall Street Journal said last night. Friday morning musings: 1. Ferrari has let the option to pick up Felipe Massa’s contract for 2013 lapse, which means he will not be in the team next year. By interviewing Mark Webber for the job, Ferrari tipped that it’s looking for a solid second banana rather than a young speedster who would make Fernando Alonso uncomfortable. There’s another veteran in F1 who doesn’t have a contract for next year. He’s fast — but not fast enough to really challenge Alonso — and he has strong ties to Ferrari. I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility that Michael...

It’s not that we dislike fuel-sipping cars. Quite the opposite; in order to achieve high mpg numbers, economy cars generally possess properties we laud, such as a low curb weight and a manual transmission. Low grip and meager horsepower are part of the eco-friendly bargain, but they also mean the car’s limits can be fully [...]

Aging is a an unavoidable, albeit occasionally depressing, part of life. With age comes many great things, wisdom for starters, but somewhere along the way we often seem to forget how to have fun. Anyone familiar with rudimentary physics knows that acceleration due to gravity is 32.2 ft/s2 (9.8 m/s2). Just a handful of cars can match that in longitudinal acceleration, and even then only for a moment or two. But 32.2 ft/s2 is a lab number; in the real world, aerodynamic drag slows a falling body significantly. To [...]

A.J. Allmendinger, when he was caught driving under the influence of alcohol a few years ago, did exactly the right thing when — within hours — he owned up to his mistake and told reporters it would never happen again. It saved his career. Now he’s in another mess and the clock is ticking. It is Thursday, and it’s been public knowledge since Tuesday that he’d officially flunked NASCAR’s drug test and the only person doing any talking is his business manager, who’s been sugar coating everything. The question that must be answered is this: What was in his system?...
So many vehicles have been turned into limousines, some more sensibly than others. These stretched examples, in our opinion, were a bit over the top. Nissan, in conjunction with the Embassy Suites hotel in Nashville, Tennessee, commissioned the limo-fication of [...]

Like all of the German carmakers, BMW has a preference for diesel power over hybrids in the search for improved fuel efficiency. But America—a pretty huge market, as you may have noticed—is crazy for gas-electrics, as are parts of Asia, so the Bavarians have spun off hybrid versions of their mainstream sedans. (more…)
Audi may have been a little late to the small-luxo-SUV segment, what with the Acura RDX, BMW X3, and Lexus RX arriving before the Q5 landed for 2009. Audi has revealed the refreshed 2013 R8 and the changes, though minor, nicely update what is one of our favorite sports cars. It may not be readily apparent, but the R8 recently celebrated its fifth birthday—its aggressive-yet-spare styling has aged well. To that end, Audi didn’t mess much with the mid-engine, all-wheel-drive R8’s basic cosmetic [...]
The EPA has revealed fuel-economy data for the 2013 Chevrolet Spark, and the tiniest car to wear a bow-tie badge in the U.S. just misses the critical—to the marketing folks, at least—40-mpg mark. Ever since Audi took control of Lamborghini, there’s been a constant murmur that the German brand’s stewardship might dilute the products from Sant’Agata, resulting in supercars that trade on comfort and approachability rather than brashness and bravado. When a photo of the 2014 Mazda 6 leaked on a Russian car-enthusiast website, it raised a few eyebrows. The 2012 Pikes Peak Hillclimb may have been delayed to next month following massive wildfires in Colorado, but that hasn't stopped the excitement over the big event. The steering in the all-new 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL three-row, seven-seat SUV feels light to the touch and loose on center.
